Independent Short Film: Lovefield
February 8th, 2009
This Independent Short Film makes stunningly effective use of many different cinematic principles, especially the soundtrack.
Lovefield combines elements of HORROR, SUSPENSE and DRAMA to create a story that takes the audience on a roller coaster ride of emotions.
What's it all about, Alfie?

A little bit about me:
One of my goals in starting an online community surrounding Independent Short Film is to provide an environment conducive to discussion and analysis. The reason for this is simple: I believe in excellence.
As contradictory as this will sound, I live by two maxims: Excellence in all things, and Good enough is good enough. In other words, I aim for excellence, but I won’t let my high standards prevent me from making any progress. Another maxim: The greatest mistake you can make in life is to live in constant fear of making one. Put differently, those who try but fail have gained a learning experience still lacking in those who fail by not trying at all.
Motivational rambling aside, it is my hope that by engaging in discussions about the Independent Short Films of others, we can learn more and strive for higher levels of excellence in ourselves. So far, the discussion here has been rather one-sided, consisting of me scouring the internet for interesting and high-quality content to post, but very little interaction. I must admit, I have gotten a few emails directing my attention to other content on the web, which I hope will continue and increase. As my eyes and ears only extend so far, I depend on your input to keep my finger on the pulse of Independent Short Film.
However, for this community to be successfully established, I need your help, and that doesn’t only mean sending me new or popular Independent Short Films (or Independent Short Films of your own that you wish to promote).
I need to know what you want to find here.
In my web of ideas, I hope to post interesting content in various forms of media including links to relevant pages, text articles and vlogs, in addition to the Independent Short Films featured here.
I hope to not only post the Independent Short Films I find (or that you find for me) but to discuss, analyze and critique them.
I hope to have featured artists come and exhibit their work, answering questions about their experiences, their featured artwork, and other aspects of their craft.
I hope to encourage, inspire, and give guidance to those thinking about creating Independent Short Films.
I hope to work with you all on collaborative Independent Short Film projects, created by the community.
I hope to host Independent Short Film creation contests, Independent Short Film festivals and competitions.
I hope to build a reputation for quality into the community which enables us to connect with sponsors for future projects.
But that’s only me. It’s YOUR community too. Do you like these ideas? Will you join me in making them reality? Or do you have completely different, perhaps better ideas and suggestions?
Send me your suggestions and I will build this site into a world of opportunity, established in our collective vision.
Independent Short Film: Food Fight
February 7th, 2009
An abridged history of American-centric warfare, from WWII to present day, told through the foods of the countries in conflict. This Independent Short Film is creative and clever, in addition to being well-made.

Independent Short Films: “Rent-A-Person” & “Lavatory Love Story”
February 7th, 2009
I wonder which of these two Independent Short Films was made first.
I find them to be remarkably similar.
First, Rent-A-Person. Some of you might notice that this film is the prequel to another Independent Short Film which I posted, Validation, which is still quite popular and getting passed around very frequently. Seriously, if you haven’t seen Validation yet, you owe it to yourself to watch it here. Rent-A-Person and Validation share one overlapping scene, which in my opinion should have been the same footage in both movies. In the scene from Rent-A-Person, actor TJ Thyne (Something’s Gotta Give, Heartbreakers, What Women Want, Erin Brokovich) is clean shaven, whereas in the same scene in Validation (filmed three years later), he has a beard. See for yourself:
Next, there’s the simplistic animated Independent Short Film, Lavatory Love Story (I’m finding a lot of interesting animations lately, especially stop-motion.) which is thematically similar to Rent-A-Person. Watch below:
What are your thoughts?
Oh, and by the way, I’d be ecstatic if you would social bookmark any posts that you like, subscribe via RSS, or forward links to your friends. Also, if you know of any great Independent Short Films (or short film producers) feel obliged to connect me with them. Thanks!
