Independent Short Film: Offside
May 11th, 2012
This is an Independent Short Film that A friend of mine came across and brought to my attention. We hosted a film discussion evening in my apartment and it was REALLY interesting to hear what everyone took away from the film. What are your thoughts? Consider the film from a storyteller’s perspective: What elements of plot, theme, symbolism, etc. can you draw out of the film? Now consider the film from a filmmaker’s perspective: What do you notice about the shots, editing, filter choice, audio mixing, etc. that stands out to you? Leave a comment with your thoughts, and I’ll share some of my thoughts throughout.

Pencil Face is an instant classic. Slightly predictable, perhaps, but a remarkably well done Independent Short Film.

Independent Short Film: Connected
April 20th, 2012
Science-Fiction is a genre that suits independent short films really well. Three specific types of Science-Fiction Short Films I’ve frequently seen are Time Travel (see also the Independent Short Film La Jetée and this collection of time-travel-themed Independent Short Films), Dystopian Society (see also the Independent Short Films Four and Televisual Man), and Post-Apocalyptic (see also the Independent Short Films 9, La Jetée, Alive in Joburg, or just feel free to explore a bit on your own.)
This short film falls into the last category. What do you take away from it?
