Independent Short Film: Alive in Joburg

May 13th, 2010

There seems to have been a little bit of confusion over a recent post.

Two and a half weeks ago, I posted about an Independent Short Film, 9, which is being expanded into a feature film under the same title, produced by Tim Burton (Nightmare Before Christmas, Batman Returns, Edward Scissorhands), and due in theaters in the USA on 09-09-09.

This film is distinctly different from District 9, which has been produced by Peter Jackson (Lord of The Rings, King Kong, Halo (due out in 2012)) and is due in American theaters on the 14th of August.

District 9 is a feature film that was expanded from this Independent Short Film, called Alive in Joburg (which is a nickname for Johannesburg, the largest city in South Africa, where the film is set).

This Independent Short Film, like the Independent Short Film 9, was made in 2005.

Here’s a great article as well:

  • The Short Works Of… Neill Blomkamp – Film Junk – Really I think the entire Movie Blog “discussion” can be summed up as Jay Cheel isn’t a director because he directs short films, documentary films and documentary short films. Also District 9 looks mind bogglingly awesome. …
